Saket’s New Delight – Locale

locationLocated just around the corner of PVR Anupam, Locale is a perfect outing for a quick catch up with friends. A huge space with beautifully done rustic interiors, we found the staff to be extremely humble and welcoming.

chimi-changa-bite

Food – It was mixture of various cuisines lined up to serve the best from their menu. Their Crispy Chimi Changa bites were the best of the lot with salsa served on the side.

falafel-with-hummus

Falafel with pita and hummus were perfectly crisp and hummus tasted amazing (because that’s really important). The Green Stripe Pizza with a crisp and thin base was an excellent offering.

main-course

Kerela Kozhi Chicken Roast, again a unique blend of roasted chicken with coconut sprinkling. However, Caesar salad without croutons and only lettuce was a disappointment. We highly recommend The Green Kiwi Mountain – an excellent Kiwi cooler! Murg Tikka Lababdar with Butter Naan & Subz Jalfregi is a recommendation from the main course. Nutshell – Excellent starters, their drinks catch you by surprise and a reasonable main course on the offering. Definitely, a place to visit if in Saket!

New Member @Pizza Hut

IMG_5014.JPGWhat are your leaving memories of a Pizza Shop? Left over hard, chewy sides. Some complain of the stale base for leaving the sides and not taking the onus on their fewer visits to dentist.IMG_5015.JPG

No more it is the case with new offerings by Pizza Hut. The new variants of stuffed crust pizza will keep your mouth stuffed until the last bite. Pizza Hut comes with three new crusts namely Veg Kebab, Cheese Max and Masala Chicken Sausage.

The three crusts designed are not just any without the thought. They have made best efforts to cater to almost all the palettes.IMG_5034.JPG

The Cheese Max, is actually too much cheese. One cannot think of adding more cheese to the bites. If you are too choosy about cheesy, please go for it. The mozzarella in the purest form with no adulteration is awesome. Veg kebab is bit on the spicy side and may make one rush for a shot of water or drink. It is difficult to balance spices such that you feel spicy and you enjoy it. With veg Kebab, pizza hut accomplishes this delicate balance. Love for sausages is satisfied with the Masala Chicken Sausage lined up at the circumference of the pizza and laced with creamy, tangy flavoured sauce.

Any of the existing pizzas can be ordered with the Cheese Max crust. Masala Chicken Sausage crust restricted to Chicken Hot ‘n’ Spicy and Tikka Treat. Veg kebab is bound with Veggie Surprise and Paneer Delight.

All in all a very good offering from Pizza hut and thoroughly enjoyed it. Keep up the good efforts on this tasteful journey.

Review: Freshmenu.com

We at Delhi Food Club love to try new things. We jump at the opportunity to explore interesting eateries. Food delivery services are our favourite because then we can chill at home with our beer and order what we like. Fresh Menu is a brand new service that helps people like us to do just that.

Fresh, delicious food, delivered at your convenience is amazing but we are usually not easily pleased. FreshMenu.com has some very attractive pictures on its website and what we loved the most is that they delivered exactly when they said they would. Their punctuality was impressive. If you want a fast food delivery service in gurgaon or a fast food delivery service in delhi, pick Fresh Menu.

Coming to the food, the Dim sum is what we started with. This isn’t fine dining at all. These dim sums were proper street food kind of dim sums, comfort food at its best.

Then came the Farfalle, the sauce of which was very subtle, a little too subtle but we liked.

The desserts consisted of a mind-blowing chocolate tart with a crumbly cookie base and rich and creamy chocolate  ganache. The brownie was good too.

Overall, our experience was quite fulfilling.

Review-“Spotlight Bistro & Bar

It’s a small cozy and an extremely vibrant and happening place located in the main market of Rajouri Garden. It does stand out from the crowd and it’s architectural design steals the first glance on the “Spotlight” interior with the neon bulb hangings.

It was a bloggers meet over dinner which was organised to portray this newly established restaurant to the Delhi walla’s. It definitely has alot to offer, from great music to quality food which has a variety of cuisines from Italian, North Indian, Continental to Chinese.

These pics. are enough to reveal about the variations from snacks to drinks and you must be finding it tempting and resplendent. But, believe me this place has alot more than this to offer you and to go by my review, you gonna step inside “Spotlight Bistro & Bar”.

Since, we were really hungry and our mouth was watering, we could no longer hold forth our temptation and shooted forth our orders. Their palate consisted of Mexican & Jalapeno pizza, Chilly Chicken, Mini Corn Mushroom Quesadilla, Fish Tikka, Mutton Seekh Kebab, Paneer Tikka,Chicken krara Bite & Aloo Tikki.

I personally loved their fish tikka, mini corn mushroom quesadilla and mutton seekh kebab. It was all very soft and staggering by taste.Quantity was good enough and pocket friendly.

From the drinks section of the menu we ordered an Apple Ginger cooler mocktail, Virgin Mojito, Kala khatta cooler mocktail which was a frozen drink with a mix of kala khatta and fresh ginger and my favourite. A must try drink for all who visit this place for a good meal. Next up in the cocktails was Spotlight Screwdriver and Pann Mojito (this was another added bonus drink served at the table and it was outstanding,a drink one can enjoy and get only at Spotlight).

Not just this, but to add to your lively mood they even have seesha with a variety of flavours.

Suggestion: Pre booking is a must as it has a small capacity of around 45-50 and is usually crowded as it’s already on the go to truly be the Spotlight of Rajouri.

I give it a 4.5/5 star as I believe in leaving some room for improvement always.

Review “Yauatcha”-The Ambience Mall, Vasant Kunj

“Afterall, Life is delicious when you pull up the chair and take a taste” !

Once you step inside the Ambience mall, Vasant Kunj, you know it well enough that it’s going to burn your pocket,be it shopping or eating at a good restaurant. “Yauatcha” is one among the many, located in a corner of the second level of the mall. This restaurant does not require a second thought for their take on-“Cantonese cuisine”.

So, let me give you a detailed insight to what this luxury dining has got for the rich class of people and for foodies who wouldn’t mind burning their pocket.

Out of so many restaurants, I picked “Yauatcha” for the review for a stomach full and content dinner. We were however, swiftly escorted to our table by the nice courteous service staff member who even guided us through the menu.

Ambience:

It’s dimly neon glow and dark facades are perfectly offset by the glass partitioning to one side that contributes to the restaurant’s airy vibe even by evening and has a long bar at the other end.It has a capacity to accommodate approximately 137 people and has the crowd of a good class of people.

Staff and Higher Management:

We barely had an interaction with them. Even the staff did not make an effort to attend us timely so after having placed an order and having done with it, we literally had to look here and there for the staff to make sure that he sees us and comes and takes the next order. The service was indeed very slow and even got frustrating at times which kept us at bay from ordering the main course and just being done up with their starters and drinks.

This place will never disappoint you when it comes to their dim sums-ranging from steamed,pan-fried and fried being available in vegetarian and meat select and for a wide range of their drinks.

Drinks:

We had ordered a glass of orange and chilli smoothie which was a good blend of orange juice, palm sugar, chilli, mint and lemon grass ( although, the lemongrass was not a necessity). We also ordered a glass of plum cut larissa smoothie which had grapes, plums, fruit syrup, oolong tea and apple juice in the right mix. The virgin mary mocktail was indeed very nice. I have seen a very few restaurants come up with this drink as a perfection, apt for my taste buds. Overall, we were content with our drinks.

Dim-sums:

We tried their Chicken and Prawn sui mai, vegetable shanghai Dumplings at first, which clearly reflected the artistry and silken touch that goes into making each of these babies. Each one of them looked stunning, made with the sure touch of a master craftsman.

IMG-20160412-WA0026

IMG-20160412-WA0029

Having finished both these starters and craving to try for more of their range in “Cantonese Cuisine”, we also ordered a chicken cheung fun, crispy spicy vegetable cheung fun and chicken wrapped in pakchoi. The Chicken wrapped in pakchoi was just too good. My favourite among all. It was very well presented to us and it was a dish that I had tried for the first time and truly relished it. I could have definitely gone for more had my stomach permitted me to do so..( hahahahha…)

IMG-20160412-WA0027

IMG-20160412-WA0020

Desserts:

This being the best part of our meal (and I am sure your’s too….)

At the end we were presented with a curated dessert platter which included three flavors of ice cream, religieuse, six french macaroons, milk choco praline and mango mascarpone gateaux.
Macaroons…Ahhh..those gorgeous, little French cookies-delicate and pretty. They were fluffy and delicious. And they were so super cute! They were perfect with not a single crack in any batch. They were fresh and delicate but too sweet for my taste buds.

IMG-20160412-WA0022

The milk chocolate praline, was my favourite (sure, it’s gonna be your’s as well…! ). The Sacher biscuit on top was a commendable way of presenting it. Very delicate and soft and dissolves in your mouth right then. Tempting and mouth watering…You need to get your eyes off it inorder to resist it.

IMG-20160412-WA0024

The religieuse, had a good presentation with a disc shaped on top having “Yauatcha” written on it but, was a little hard. Didn’t find it fresh and I would not like to go for another try of it.

IMG-20160412-WA0025

Mango mascarpone gateaux- Soft and delicate and a bit crunchy…

IMG-20160412-WA0021

If you are having the crave for “Cantonese food” and like to try out their deep fried dim-sums, then you can give it a thought of burning your pocket.

The service needs to improve and also the higher management needs to make sure that each and everyone there is attended properly.

It might leave some of you with a content heart and happy taste buds but as for me, I was a little disappointed with some of their dishes and might think of considering it the next time.

Highly Recommend: Chicken wrapped in pakchoi, Chicken and Prawn sui mai and milk choco praline.

Colors of South, Chettinad Food Festival @ Crowne Plaza, Gurgaon

Crowne Plaza held the amazingly aromatic Chettinad Food Festival. Starters consisted of Kozhi Varuval (masala coated fried chicken morsals), Kari Kola urandai (minced lamb dumplings spiked with chettinad spices), Keerai vadai (spinach and lentil patties), Vazhakai kola urandai (Golden kebabs of raw banana with coconut and chillies). Our favourite was the minced lamb. The flavours were delightful. The chutney it was served with was brilliant too.

DSC_0826

DSC_0827

The Main course consisted of “Meen kozhambu” (Spicy tangy fish curry simmered with shallots, cumin and curry leaves), “Kozhi uppkari Chettiyar” (spices rubbed chicken simmered with shallots and poppy seeds masala) but our favourite was the “Kari chops masala” (A traditional Lamb chop preperation).

DSC_0812

We had a few vegetarians at the table who particularly enjoyed the main course “Kai Kari mandi” (A combination of vegetables , green chillies cooked in gravy of tamarind and garlic) and the Vellai poriyal Cauliflower and double beans tempered with garlic).

DSC_0810

DSC_0850The desserts of “Kalkandu Pongal”(A sweet preration of sugar candy and rice) and “Chettiiyar carrot halwa” (Grated carrots and reduced milk finished with ghee and nuts). The buffet wasn’t restricted to only Chettinad food though. There was Sushi, Chinese and Chaat that we all loved.

The food festival lasted until the 20th of March and was hugely successful, the menu was changed almost everyday and the chefs ensured that the spices were just right to suit the taste of North Indians and Expats.

I Do Barbeque-Jaypee Siddharth- Amazing Concept Awesome Food

I have visited a lot many restaurants and amazing food joints, but this one is a class apart. From ambience, to the food and most importantly the novel concept, this place entices you through and through.

Let me introduce you to ‘I Do Barbecue at Metro Grill by Jaypee Siddharth’. Metro Grill at Jaypee has introduced this very innovative concept ‘ I Do Barbecue’ which is synonym to DIY (Do it Yourself) and winters in Delhi has been the perfect time to launch this concept.

The ambience is just beautiful and apt to spend a winter evening enjoying with your family and friends, its one of those places, where the more people you visit with the more you will enjoy.

Now the idea is, that they have these shops, from where you buy your selection of meats or veggies, then select your marinates or rubs, and then they set up a barbecue grill for you, which comes with all the necessary equipments and spices, oil, utensils etc.

The meats start for as low as 90/-Rs for 100 gms and veggies for Rs. 65/- onwards per 100 gms which makes it very reasonable and affordable as against normal 5 star rates. One can choose the accompaniments and dips as per liking from a variety of offerings.

You are also given a chef’s apron and all necessary assistance you could need to become a chef and barbecue for yourself. The staff is extremely friendly, takes care of minutest details and makes you feel very very comfortable. BTW, they also have few leisure games to take care of those long interesting hours that you sit and enjoy while barbequing the food.

Well, in my case I left the decision of choosing meats and marinates in the hands of extremely talented and friendly chef, chef Ashish Joshi, who is the executive chef for Jaypee Siddharth. To start with chef brought us Five Spiced Chicken Picatta, Cajun Chicken Breasts & Tandoori Marinated Cottage Cheese Steak.

The chicken breasts were very tender and very very yummy and so was the chicken picatta. I was surprised to see that the cottage cheese was very well coated with the spices and retained the complete flavour, because normally the paneer tikkas that we get at restaurants end up tasting bland with a very thin coating of the marinate, but this cottage cheese tasted amazing, were grilled to perfection.

The fun of doing it one self, makes the barbeque experience indeed a unique one and most enjoyable. The next set included some Curried Spice Fish Fillet and Indian Spiced Pineapple and both the preparations were impeccable. The fish was succulent and pineapple very very juicy and both the marinades had a very distinct flavour complimenting the dishes respectively.

The place in itself fills with so much excitement, that one starts looking forward to going there again even before the first visit comes to an end. My son accompanied me on the visit, and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, because its not just eating, but the entire process of choosing things, wearing the chef’s aprons, chilling and relaxing, sipping a mocktail,/cocktail while you see the food getting grilled, and giving them twists and turns in between. We tried the Fruit Punch and Mixed Berries Mocktail and both were amazing.

The next we tried some Garlic Peppered Marinated Chicken Sausages and Orange Citrus Glazed Chicken with Skin. I am personally not very fond of Sausages, but all I can say is they tasted quite nice, but this zesty chicken was something I cannot forget, it just tasted amazing. It had a perfect zing because of the orange flavour and the spices balanced it nicely, so as to not overpower the citrusy taste.

Last on the barbeque were some Chicken Thighs with Balsamic Reduction Marination and Garlic Peppered Chicken Breasts. And once again they tasted awesome, though we ended up tasting quite a variety of marinades and rubs, but I must say that each one had its own distinct flavour and cannot be compared. One must definitely try all of them and pick your own favourites.

Well they also offer a Lazy Menu, for those who do not want to indulge in this process of Barbequing, though I highly recommend giving it a try, its so much fun. The lazy menu includes some pre decided food combinations and have quite a few options to choose from, not only in Indian, but Continental, Italian and other Cuisines as well.

In spite of feeling too full with the over load of Barbeque menu, we ordered Dal Makhani and Butter Naan. Somehow without a Roti, Indian meal seems incomplete and hence the choice. I suggested the chef to keep some Roomali Rotis as accompanimants with the Barbeque Menu, so that it becomes a complete meal in itself, and I hope they would try and accommodate the same in near future.

The Dal was simply top class and proves the quality of overall preparations of the restaurant.

I really cannot put in words how much I enjoyed being at this place, and I extend my wishes and thanks to Chef Ashish Joshi, F&B Managers Prashant and Ravish for their hospitality and excellent fooding experience.

IMG_2553 (1)

This place is highly recommended if you are fond of Barbeque Items and want to spend a great time in the company of your family and friends trying your hands at doing the Barbeque on your own without worrying about getting and collecting the ingredients and cleaning the mess next day. I give it a very deserving 4.5 star rating out of 5.

The Wolf’s Evening at SANDY’s Cocktails & Kitchen, Gurgaon

#The Wolf's Eve @ Sandy's.

I like to start by clearly mentioning that it was an utmost ambivalent experience that I have had over at Sandy’s, there were some real impressive things and concomitantly some things this place needed to atone.

#The Wolf's Eve @ Sandy's.

#The Wolf's Eve @ Sandy's.

While I may be called a neophyte in adjudging, but certainly my experience with food makes me a bit proficient in taking a judgment call and while the evening here was entertaining but also a bit tedious to an extent.

Coming to the evening, when my brother and I reached this venue, it was all lit up, exuberance singing from every corner of the venue and the juxtapose lounge which is more of a lavish green sitting arena with some spectacular arrangement of lights and seating, the main entrance comes with a view of delight.

#The Wolf's Eve @ Sandy's.

Just as we entered, we were escorted downstairs to their invigorating live bar and amazing portrayal of talent, as it was told to us that every Tuesday night the Sandy’s conduct a special talent programme where one gets to enjoy and explore the inner self, similarly where one can see sophistication upstairs there is a lot of soothing music and partying aura downstairs, with a stage to perform and lot of area to sit and enjoy this is a perfect place to hang out with friends and that what we expected and visited.

#The Wolf's Eve @ Sandy's.

#The Wolf's Eve @ Sandy's.

Eventually, after few moments and grabbing some comfortable seats we ordered our drinks and let me be very much clarified and incontrovertible to the fact that I have had mocktails and mixtures many a times but this place is a real deal to get digging for their drinks, but the only low aspect I explored or felt was not too much to offer, the drinks were excellent but for someone who prefers non alcoholic drinks, they aren’t going to suffice.

#The Wolf's Eve @ Sandy's.

Gradually, after taking a sip we were ready for a meal to start and some appetisers to go on with and this is where the ship started to sink. We first ordered a Bruschetta, spring rolls and truffle and jalapeño cheese balls, out of which the cheese balls were marvellously cooked and served with mint mayonnaise dip and the spring rolls stuffed with veggies and served with salsa sauce were also pretty good but the bruschetta was not upto the mark, I’ve had better is what I’d like to say. The garlic bread bought supplanting, the bruschetta was of no prudence as it lacked in comforting us rather making us disappointed but, the most appreciative thing I liked specifically about their staff was they were all open to suggestions and very very accepting of our choices.

#The Wolf's Eve @ Sandy's.

Well after this, we came to our main course and ordered a white sauce penne pasta and a four seasons pizza which were both were not upto our expectations. The pizza was slightly too bland for our liking. I love Italian pizzas and do not at all have a problem with authenticity but this one was not entirely to our liking. But, we saw pretty admirable efforts of presentation, the quantity remained intransigent and that is what i adored a lot about the main course, the presentation was partially outlandish and pretty much a delight to admire.

#The Wolf's Eve @ Sandy's.

We finally stepped up to our final round of deserts, ordering a tiramisu was an amazing deal to crack but a Rioja Poached Pears with spices were really not really my cup of tea. The tiramisu is undoubtedly a great dessert to dig into and the quirky presentation using “molecular gastronomy” – serving with foam around the pears was amazing.

#The Wolf's Eve @ Sandy's.

#The Wolf's Eve @ Sandy's.

In totality as mentioned before it was a rather mixed experience but more of learning for me. I have a lot of suggestions to put in and will surely provide them with all these opinions of mine. Wish to visit them again  to try some more interesting items. Till that time all the best to Sandy’s! Hoping and wishing them luck and fortune.

Yauatcha – The best standalone Chinese restaurant in Delhi NCR

Yauatcha is one of those restaurants that have the word legend suffixed to it all the time. A Michelin starred restaurant, voted among the top 50 restaurants in the world and London’s amazing Hakkasan as a sister restaurant to boot. You will understand the level of expectations I had while visiting the place. Moreover, authentic Chinese cuisine is something that is hard to find in Delhi anyway.

DSC_0390

Located on Level 2 of Ambience Mall, Vasant Kunj, Yauatcha has a warm but very sophisticated feel to it. The restaurant is massive with many tables, which are very well spaced out so you can be yourself without being pried on by others.

DSC_0391 DSC_0394

The dimsums are what Yauatcha is most known for and we started the afternoon sampling five of their best.  We ordered a platter of fried turnip cake, sesame prawn toast, char feung (prawns), chicken char sui bun and chicken and prawn sui mai. and they were some of the best dim sums I’ve had. In fact, I think they are the best dim sums available in Delhi.

DSC_0401 DSC_0399

What makes them special, literally everything. The balance of flavours, the freshness and the distinct taste of each dimsum is reason for me to return to Yauatcha. I think the best dims have the meat cooked al dente and every dimsum here had that bite, phenomenal. I loved the char feung best for the amazing textural difference of that steamed top against the crunchy interior.

DSC_0402 DSC_0403 DSC_0410

My main dish was a steamed river sole in black bean sauce along with Penang style old town prawn noodles. The river sole has me salivating till today. Perfectly steamed, flaky and elevated by the peppery black bean sauce, it was exceptional.

DSC_0408

The noodles too were seriously tasty and being the lover of prawn I am, I was chuffed to see that it wasn’t overcooked in any of the dishes.

The desserts were the biggest surprise as I never thought a Chinese restaurant will do French desserts so well.  I ordered a religieuse and a milk chocolate praline and both were spot on. The praline is now my favourite chocolate dessert in Delhi. Not only was the combination of the mousse and the sacher biscuit superb, but also the hazelnut and salted caramel bits were like little nuggets of joy. What really lifted this dish for me was the brilliant lemon yogurt sorbet as it cleansed the palette and made he dessert fresh.

DSC_0411 DSC_0412 DSC_0414

The  was special too, especially the choux pastry filled with the silkiest and heavenly taste cremeux, a triumph indeed.

DSC_0415

Yauatcha is a special addition to Delhi’s ever growing restaurant scene and a gastronomer’s delight. I cannot recommend it highly enough to anyone who loves food (not just Chinese food). Go get your Chinese fix now!

We started with some Pita Bread with Hummus (Rs 170). The Pita was extremely fresh and the hummus was well prepared. I have certainly had better hummus but this wasn’t at all bad. The combo was very filling. The portion size was good. Like a light evening snack with tea? Go for this!
BUENO KITCHEN - HOME DELIVERY AND CATERING

Their catering menu has close to 400 dishes. When I first looked at the menu I was completely zapped. What appealed to me the most was the Mexican Rice Chicken with Paprika Yoghurt (Rs 230). When it arrived it looked really appealing. I would have liked it to be slightly more flavoursome. I wouldn’t call it perfect but what I got wasn’t half bad.
BUENO KITCHEN - HOME DELIVERY AND CATERING

Then came the Shredded Chicken in Hot Garlic Sauce with Veg Hakka Noodles (Rs 260). This was one of the nicest things we had that day. We really loved the balance of flavours and one can never have too much garlic.

We did not like the Mutton Seekh Wrap (Rs 150) or the Chatpata Aloo Wrap (Rs 110) very much but the Nachos and Salsa were to die for. The Spaghetti Aglio Olio Chicken – recommended.
