Soiree with Australian Chef, Scott @ Hyatt Regency, Delhi

Cosmopolitan, Elegant and chic, Australia has a passionate soul and a welcoming heart that makes every thing truly memorable about that place! From thrilling world class events and renowned architecture, to cafe-lined streetscapes and verdant parklands, there’s always something new and exciting to discover in that country!!!! Well, Well, Enough Said! or rather having said that, it was my true pleasure to visit Hyatt regency when they bought Australia on Platter because after all it was #ScottPickettInIndia , Melbourne’s most celebrated chef and culinary personality.

Event started off with Avocado master class and effortlessly lead us to reconstruction of Local favorite Bombay from there. We all carefully watched Chef Scott and the way his hand moved like an undulating waves giving perfection to each and everything.

How do i express this.. Well, serving soul food and exclusive, Dinner was beautifully divided into a satiating 3 course meal with the options of both veg and non veg and not to forget with the love of both White and Red wine!

In between the meal, they premiered a small video talking about Australia tourism. From world famous wines to fabulously fresh food and breathtaking sceneries, magnificent forests with cascading waterfalls and quaint mountain villages, that video spoke about everything which allured me to plan my next big visit.

It was lovely to hear Chef Scott and his experience about both our country and his and it was awesome to come back home after an amazing experience of Auatralian culture and food that evening

Saket’s New Delight – Locale

locationLocated just around the corner of PVR Anupam, Locale is a perfect outing for a quick catch up with friends. A huge space with beautifully done rustic interiors, we found the staff to be extremely humble and welcoming.

chimi-changa-bite

Food – It was mixture of various cuisines lined up to serve the best from their menu. Their Crispy Chimi Changa bites were the best of the lot with salsa served on the side.

falafel-with-hummus

Falafel with pita and hummus were perfectly crisp and hummus tasted amazing (because that’s really important). The Green Stripe Pizza with a crisp and thin base was an excellent offering.

main-course

Kerela Kozhi Chicken Roast, again a unique blend of roasted chicken with coconut sprinkling. However, Caesar salad without croutons and only lettuce was a disappointment. We highly recommend The Green Kiwi Mountain – an excellent Kiwi cooler! Murg Tikka Lababdar with Butter Naan & Subz Jalfregi is a recommendation from the main course. Nutshell – Excellent starters, their drinks catch you by surprise and a reasonable main course on the offering. Definitely, a place to visit if in Saket!

New Member @Pizza Hut

IMG_5014.JPGWhat are your leaving memories of a Pizza Shop? Left over hard, chewy sides. Some complain of the stale base for leaving the sides and not taking the onus on their fewer visits to dentist.IMG_5015.JPG

No more it is the case with new offerings by Pizza Hut. The new variants of stuffed crust pizza will keep your mouth stuffed until the last bite. Pizza Hut comes with three new crusts namely Veg Kebab, Cheese Max and Masala Chicken Sausage.

The three crusts designed are not just any without the thought. They have made best efforts to cater to almost all the palettes.IMG_5034.JPG

The Cheese Max, is actually too much cheese. One cannot think of adding more cheese to the bites. If you are too choosy about cheesy, please go for it. The mozzarella in the purest form with no adulteration is awesome. Veg kebab is bit on the spicy side and may make one rush for a shot of water or drink. It is difficult to balance spices such that you feel spicy and you enjoy it. With veg Kebab, pizza hut accomplishes this delicate balance. Love for sausages is satisfied with the Masala Chicken Sausage lined up at the circumference of the pizza and laced with creamy, tangy flavoured sauce.

Any of the existing pizzas can be ordered with the Cheese Max crust. Masala Chicken Sausage crust restricted to Chicken Hot ‘n’ Spicy and Tikka Treat. Veg kebab is bound with Veggie Surprise and Paneer Delight.

All in all a very good offering from Pizza hut and thoroughly enjoyed it. Keep up the good efforts on this tasteful journey.

Navratri has never been better! @Sattvik, Select CityWalk, Delhi

I am a hardcore non-vegetarian but Chef Anoop Singh Bisht from Sattvik made dining experience extremely enjoyable (I wasn’t expecting it to be at all!). The special 5-course Navratri meal at North Indian fine dining restaurant,Sattvik was something everyone should try. I associate Sattvik food with loads of oil but it was truly commendable how chef prepared everything in minimal oil and managed to keep everything delicious.

20160415040647

Sattvik Restaurant is located in Select CITYWALK, Delhi’s most exciting Shopping & Entertainment Destination situated in the heart of South Delhi. Need for a good fine-dining restaurant  in South Delhi that serves only vegetarian food gave birth to the idea of this restaurant.  Since it serves pure vegetarian food the name was derived from   sāttvika  – relating to or endowed with the quality sattva (Sanskrit word referring to  pure, true, genuine, honest, good, virtuous). Since it’s inception in 2008 it has been a place where people come and relax and have a hearty meal and holistic fine dining experience.

20160415040647-1

On offer will a delicious range of beverage, snacks, mains and desserts- a total of over 15 items such as Masaladaar Chaach, Saboodana Papad, Kuttu ki Papdi Chaat, Bhuni Shakarkandi ki Chaat, Jimikand ka Kabab with Mirch ki Chutney, Kacche Kele ka Kebab, Masala Arbi, Kuttu aur Singara ki Puri, Samak ki Phirni, Kheer Gud Makhana and many other such satvik delights.

20160415040641-2

My favourites on the menu were Kuttu aur Singara ki Puri, Paneer Makhni and Samak ki Phirni. I was quite amused to see how beautifully chef had managed to maintain balance in the gravy without using any salt. The puri went beautifully with it. The phirni was subtle and lightly sweetened and was the perfect end to my meal.

The chef sent a beautiful and fragrant cup of tea with Gur Makhana. I am certainly going to come back again and again for that brilliant tea time snack. The menu will vary every three days for Navratri. Those fasting this Navratri (even those who are not!) could not have asked for more!

What: Navratri Food Festival – Special 5 course meal @ Rs. 595

Where: Sattvik, Select CITYWALK, S-5, 2nd Floor, Saket, New Delhi

When: 12noon – 11pm , 8th April – 15th April, 2016

#RakhiwithMcCain – Cooking up a Storm with my Sibling!

IMG_2904

I have to be honest. I have never really cooked with my brother. We are both huge foodies and we cook all the time but it has never been with my brother. The fun part about this Rakhi was that McCain sent us a lot of interesting stuff and we were asked to create fun recipes with it. We decided to make a delicious Indian Burger or Pav Burger with McCain Aloo Tikki. It sounds simple and it really was. Cooking with McCain is a walk in the park!

Ingredients:

4 pieces McCain Aloo Tikki Shallow Fried
1 red onion, finely chopped
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 tomato
1 thinly sliced onion
1 handful Parmesan, grated
1 heaped tablespoon Dijon mustard
Groundnut or other flavourless oil
Pav bun,
Toasted Tomato ketchup

Serves 4

Directions

Cook the Aloo Tikki in olive oil and keep it aside to rest. Cook the Pav Burger in a little oil flavoured in onions. To assemble the burger first use a mix of the mustard and toasted tomato ketchup. Then add onions, tomatoes, parmesan to it. Then add the McCains Aloo Tikki but and top off with some more mustard and the top part of the Pav. It’s that simple!

I loved cooking with my brother. What a fun experience this was.

Chef Saby’s Amreli @ Hotel Diplomat, Delhi

In the leafy environs of Lutyens Delhi lies a culinary gem called Amreli in Hotel Diplomat. The Hotel itself is so understated that it is easy to miss but once inside it is a as cosy a place as there can be in Delhi. The menu has been created by Chef Saby (Sabyasachi Gorai) and is quite eclectic. Continental and American food sits side by side with a great Indian menu so that you keep coming back to Amreli even if you have a craving for different cuisines.

We began our mean with a caesar salad along with mutton seekh kebabs and sizzling gambas. The sizzling sambas or prawns were sizzling alright – in the juices of wonderful cherry tomatoes, garlic, olives, mushrooms and rosemary (among other herbs). Needless to say they were smashing. The prawns were cooked perfectly and were coated enough in those heavenly juices to provide a taste contrast.

The Diplomat Caesar salad was amped up with peppers and zucchini and the seekh kebab was great as well.

For mains we ordered crispy filo raan, chettinad chicken with malabar paratha and a Louisiana chicken sandwich.

The chettinad chicken was highly recommended and it was my favourite dish of the day. The chettinad here has become my favourite chettinad chicken in the city. This version is more refined than the punchy Chettinad chicken you get at other restaurants but the balance of flavours and the liberal use of coconut won me over. The wonderful tang in the sauce lingers on you r taste buds for very long and its a very pleasant taste indeed.

The filo raan is a meat eaters delight, although I found the filo quite oily. Maybe a thicker wrap could have absorbed more oil and made it taste better, but that is a personal choice.

The Louisiana chicken sandwich was quite tasty and the spicy chips made the sandwich quite special.

The desserts were classic desserts – baked cheesecake, chocolate fondant and creme brûlée. The creme burlee was the best dessert by a distance. It had perfectly hard caramel on top that crackled and the custard was as it should be – creamy, smooth and luscious.

DSC_0914
DSC_0912
The fondant was made well but it was slightly let down because of the chocolate used, as it left a slight aftertaste.

The baked cheesecake was quite decent too.
In summation , I loved my time at Amreli. I came with my friends for a quick meal but it turned into a leisurely lunch as we sat and chatted away as time went by. A charming restaurant with great food often does that to you.

The Wolf’s Evening at SANDY’s Cocktails & Kitchen, Gurgaon

#The Wolf's Eve @ Sandy's.

I like to start by clearly mentioning that it was an utmost ambivalent experience that I have had over at Sandy’s, there were some real impressive things and concomitantly some things this place needed to atone.

#The Wolf's Eve @ Sandy's.

#The Wolf's Eve @ Sandy's.

While I may be called a neophyte in adjudging, but certainly my experience with food makes me a bit proficient in taking a judgment call and while the evening here was entertaining but also a bit tedious to an extent.

Coming to the evening, when my brother and I reached this venue, it was all lit up, exuberance singing from every corner of the venue and the juxtapose lounge which is more of a lavish green sitting arena with some spectacular arrangement of lights and seating, the main entrance comes with a view of delight.

#The Wolf's Eve @ Sandy's.

Just as we entered, we were escorted downstairs to their invigorating live bar and amazing portrayal of talent, as it was told to us that every Tuesday night the Sandy’s conduct a special talent programme where one gets to enjoy and explore the inner self, similarly where one can see sophistication upstairs there is a lot of soothing music and partying aura downstairs, with a stage to perform and lot of area to sit and enjoy this is a perfect place to hang out with friends and that what we expected and visited.

#The Wolf's Eve @ Sandy's.

#The Wolf's Eve @ Sandy's.

Eventually, after few moments and grabbing some comfortable seats we ordered our drinks and let me be very much clarified and incontrovertible to the fact that I have had mocktails and mixtures many a times but this place is a real deal to get digging for their drinks, but the only low aspect I explored or felt was not too much to offer, the drinks were excellent but for someone who prefers non alcoholic drinks, they aren’t going to suffice.

#The Wolf's Eve @ Sandy's.

Gradually, after taking a sip we were ready for a meal to start and some appetisers to go on with and this is where the ship started to sink. We first ordered a Bruschetta, spring rolls and truffle and jalapeño cheese balls, out of which the cheese balls were marvellously cooked and served with mint mayonnaise dip and the spring rolls stuffed with veggies and served with salsa sauce were also pretty good but the bruschetta was not upto the mark, I’ve had better is what I’d like to say. The garlic bread bought supplanting, the bruschetta was of no prudence as it lacked in comforting us rather making us disappointed but, the most appreciative thing I liked specifically about their staff was they were all open to suggestions and very very accepting of our choices.

#The Wolf's Eve @ Sandy's.

Well after this, we came to our main course and ordered a white sauce penne pasta and a four seasons pizza which were both were not upto our expectations. The pizza was slightly too bland for our liking. I love Italian pizzas and do not at all have a problem with authenticity but this one was not entirely to our liking. But, we saw pretty admirable efforts of presentation, the quantity remained intransigent and that is what i adored a lot about the main course, the presentation was partially outlandish and pretty much a delight to admire.

#The Wolf's Eve @ Sandy's.

We finally stepped up to our final round of deserts, ordering a tiramisu was an amazing deal to crack but a Rioja Poached Pears with spices were really not really my cup of tea. The tiramisu is undoubtedly a great dessert to dig into and the quirky presentation using “molecular gastronomy” – serving with foam around the pears was amazing.

#The Wolf's Eve @ Sandy's.

#The Wolf's Eve @ Sandy's.

In totality as mentioned before it was a rather mixed experience but more of learning for me. I have a lot of suggestions to put in and will surely provide them with all these opinions of mine. Wish to visit them again  to try some more interesting items. Till that time all the best to Sandy’s! Hoping and wishing them luck and fortune.

Nashta (Golf Course Road, Gurgaon) – 3.5/5 Stars

Nashta is a wonderful option for people in a hurry. I do not cook and I am always looking to have a nice breakfast before I leave for work. I read a couple of reviews of Nashta online and I knew I had found what I was looking for. Nashta is a wonderful option for people who love a nice hearty meal in the morning.

The best part about Nashta is that the food at Nashta is very fresh. You can taste and tell that it has just been prepared. It is delivered piping hot to your door and it comes with freshly squeezed juices, freshly cut and baked potato wedges, etc.

923402_574229525960133_1369688984_n

Since there were 6 of us, we ordered a variety of options and got to taste a lot of different things on the menu. The juice I liked the most was the “Berry Explosion”, a very guilt free healthy start to my morning. The juice did not taste synthetic at all. It was all natural and fresh. I did not quite like the “Orange Juice” as it had some bits and a quite a strong zesty taste but the rest of the juices were great.

734076_556060207777065_1186878761_n

The “Chicken Tikka Breakwich” was a meal in itself. The chicken tikka had been marinated in Indian spices, chillies and came with a coriander mayo dip. The sandwiches and wraps came with potato wedges and dips. It was a complete meal in itself and was packed perfectly. I read while I eat so my breakfast tends to get cold. I was very pleased to see that I could eat and then microwave my breakfast in the container they sent with it because it was microwave safe. They also sent some wooden cutlery.

1385963_571632696219816_951055218_n

We also had a couple of “Premium Combos” that came with dessert, salad and a fruit bowl. The fruits were cut beautifully and consisted of melon, papaya, orange, etc. The salad had iceberg, sweet corn, cherry tomatoes and the dressing had been served separately. Overall, it was a nice satisfying meal, packed perfectly and priced reasonably.

Dont skip breakfast!

#MamaDrinkUp @Mamagoto, Khan Market – cocktails, snacks and alfresco dining!

#MamaDrinkUp was a fun filled event at the terrace of Mamagoto in Khan Market. We at the Delhi Food Club have always loved Mamagoto for its delicious Thai Green Curry, Honey Chicken and Crispy Chilly Potatoes but now with the introduction of interesting cocktails on their menu they have found yet another way to wow us.

1450687_465923166866867_1772904946_n

A very pleasant evening with great drinks and the company of some really good friends, – what can be better than that?

999761_461396150652902_335473840_n

The Mamagoto crew has certainly managed to create innovative concoctions that are not available elsewhere. Their in house spirit infusion include kaffir lime leaf infused in silver tequila, thyme infused with dry gin and so on.

75657_461408890651628_589310843_n

The resultant cocktails are crisper, finer and there isn’t any taste of factory made syrups and other artificial flavours. Nothing is too sweet or too sour, all balanced for the discerning palate.

1517833_452081301584387_1134159558_n

The restaurant’s mixologists have balanced herb with fruit to master some stellar tastes with a rich mouth feel and unique after taste. Apart from this they have flavoured Margaritas, Daiquiris, and Mojitos. The Mojitos were our favourite and I would certainly recommend them to you!

Restauant Review: Wasabi by Morimoto – The Taj Mansingh, New Delhi – 4.5/5 Stars

The food at Wasabi by Morimoto is incomparable. The Executive Sous Chef Nilesh is the one running the show with his team and he has done a pretty neat job to ensure everything is absolutely perfect. The food, the ambience and the service is impeccable.

IMG_1790

This is the kind of restaurant I can score 5/5 and not give it a second thought. I had a sore throat so they gave me a nice punch with mace, peppercorns and cardamon to begin with. Then came some sake, which was served in a bamboo glass. There starters included the famous sushi from Wasabi including the crab and scallop sushi better known as zuwai kani shabu shabu and hotate. The rock shrimp tempura was unbelievable too. It was extremely crisp on the outside and tender on the inside.

IMG_1786

Then came the sorbet, which was served in an extravagant presentation with liquid nitrogen. It taste was worth all the fuss. Everything looked magnificent and tasted beautiful. The main course was tenderloin and lamb hotpot. I wanted my beef to be medium rare and it was cooked to perfection. The meat was pink in the centre and was absolutely tender and juicy. It was really wonderfully cooked and the sauce went perfectly with the beef. The lamb hot pot was slightly less flavourful as compared to the beef but it was good too.

IMG_1782

Our desserts were even more beautifully presented. The cinnamon caramel ice cream with candied nuts and bananas were a treat to the eyes and the taste buds. The light sprinkle of cinnamon on the ice cream was a complete treat.

IMG_1776
This restaurant is a class apart and is an excellent experience. I recommend it to all food lovers and connoisseurs.
