Coming to the food, the Dim sum is what we started with. This isn’t fine dining at all. These dim sums were proper street food kind of dim sums, comfort food at its best.

Then came the Farfalle, the sauce of which was very subtle, a little too subtle but we liked.

The desserts consisted of a mind-blowing chocolate tart with a crumbly cookie base and rich and creamy chocolate  ganache. The brownie was good too.

Overall, our experience was quite fulfilling.

Stop My Starvation – like literally!

Stop My Starvation is a small breakfast joint in the Malviya Nagar Market. With a name as quirky as ’Stop My Starvation’ this place aims to satiate your small time immediate hunger. We all have those moments when we know dinner is ready at home but we need to grab a quick bite to satisfy the tummy, telling it to believe that more is coming just in a while. So, this is the place you would want to head to the next time you have your quick bite moments.

Their menu has crepes, waffles, sandwiches and shakes. This is one of the few places that serves crepes in Delhi and that too with both sweet and savoury fillings. Similarly, it was the first time that I had a waffle with vegetable/chicken toppings instead of the usual maple syrup and ice cream to go with it. Their waffles’ dough is simply melt in the mouth. They are preparing it with Malted Barley which is being imported from US and that makes their snack options even more delicious and healthy. And, on top of that, all of their sweet waffles by default come with a scoop of ice cream. Also, they have add on options for toppings in case you want to customize.

Some of the things that I ordered here were:

Magic Mushroom: It was a savoury waffle with mushroom, cream and cheese topping, sprinkled with herbs. Great to taste. As mentioned above, super soft dough of waffles and the gooey mushroom with cheese and cream was making it all the more tempting.

IMG-20160710-WA0011

Archie’s Favourite: This was a savoury crepe with chicken keema filling. The chicken keema was cooked to perfection in delectable chipotle sauce. It was a light dish and the flavours were coming out really well.

IMG-20160710-WA0014

Nutella Factory: Heavenly is the word for this dessert. Waffles laid with Nutella spread along with ice cream scoop and chocolate sauce- simply yummy! After having the above two dishes, I still can’t remember how fast I finished this one and still wanted some more. It was the hero dish for me.

After trying out a couple of dishes at Stop My Starvation, I  would recommend this as the pit stop while you’re shopping, coming back from a class or even on your way to home from office. It is a super pocket friendly destination. Nowhere would you find a Nutella waffle along with ice cream priced at 120/- bucks. They are also delivering till a radius of 3 km in their vicinity. What more can one ask for!

Chili’s, Ambience Mall, Vasant Kunj

Chili’s is one place that’s never going to disappoint you be it in terms of food or drinks. This place serves awesome cocktails and even awesome-er food.

Their ambiance is just like any American café with booths and lights hanging from the ceiling over your booth. LED screens for sports nights and a small area for private parties.

I have been to its Saket branch quite a few times but Vasant Kunj was my first time. Needless to say, the experience was as good as it can be. The food was delicious and the Chili’s hospitality was impeccable. The chef was there for us to explain each and every dish that we tried – how it was prepared, what flavors it has, and how we must go about eating it with all the dips and sides.

IMG_20160411_230448_HDR.jpg

I tried quite a lot of things from their menu. It was a lavish spread and everything tasted so good that I had a hard time deciding what to eat more and what to eat less. So, here goes my list of dishes:

#1 Classic Nachos

IMG_20160411_212941_HDR.jpg

Best nachos ever! Trust me when I say that because no place you’ll find nachos laden with chicken and cheese and topped with a jalapeno slice. The sour cream makes it even better to go with.

#2 Triple Dipper

IMG_20160411_213105_HDR.jpg

A combination of three appetizers of your choice with three different dips to go with each. Our appetizers included Chicken Crispers, Chicken Wings and Southwestern Eggrolls. Chicken Crispers were primarily chicken rolled in crispy layer of floor. The chicken wings were soft and tangy in taste and the Southwestern Eggrolls were the best of the three I would say. They were basically crispy tortilla rolls stuffed with chicken, spinach, corns, beans and jalapenos. They were well stuffed and tasted really good with the Avocado dip.

#3 Texas Cheese Poppers

IMG_20160411_214621_HDR.jpg

Crispy on the outside and gooey from inside- that would be the exact phrase to describe these cheese poppers. It was a vegetarian starter dish and it was quite spicy too.

#4 Presidente Margarita

IMG_20160411_214327_HDR.jpg

Hand shaken margarita – a mix of tequila, triple sec and brandy topped with lime juice. Perfect drink for summers and to get high. The best part is they shake it at your table and serve you fresh!

#5 A combination of three margaritas – World’s Freshest Margarita, Blue Pacific Margarita and Watermelon Margarita

IMG_20160411_214313_HDR.jpg

All three were tequila and triple sec mixed in lemon juice, blue curacao and melon juice respectively and all three were good.

#6 Spicy Smoked Pasta

IMG_20160411_221650_HDR.jpg

Penne pasta cooked in spicy Alfredo sauce and baked in cheese with grilled chicken, finely chopped bell peppers, and corns and garnished with cilantro. This pasta was very unusual from what you get normally at any Italian place. Those taste good but this one was absolutely amazing. A dish recommended by the chef and treat for your taste palates.

#7 Southern Smokehouse Burger

IMG_20160411_221703_HDR.jpg

Burger with choice of patty (here it was chicken), topped with melted cheddar cheese, smoked bacon, lettuce, tomato, pickles, onion rings, sauces and served with bbq sauce, pickles and of course French fries. The burger was huge in terms of size and adding to the taste and crisp were bacon and onion rings. Simple amazing!

#8 Classic Bacon Burger

IMG_20160411_221749_HDR.jpg

This one was with beef patty and it was topped with bacon, melted cheese, pickles, lettuce, tomatoes, red onions and chili’s sauces. I really liked this one with the softness of beef patty and the crunchy onions it was one of the best bacon burgers I have had till now.

#9 Blackened Fish
IMG_20160411_221713_HDR.jpg

The picture explains why the name ‘Blackened Fish’ cuz’ it was grilled really well. Grilled fish fillet served with herbed rice and veggies. We had it with spicy garlic dip and our choice of fish was Sole Fish. One can also have Basa Fish. The fish was really soft and the herbed rice was making it the perfect dish of the evening. A must try!

#10 Chipotle Chicken Flat Bread Pizza

IMG_20160411_222144_HDR.jpg

A pizza that’s square in shape but still has triangular pieces. Interesting, right? But more than that it was yummy in taste.

#11 Mix and Match Fajitas

IMG_20160411_222238_HDR.jpg

Fajitas, the typical Mexican dish that sizzles and served hot in wooden pans. Here, it’s a match of three – grilled chicken, grilled steaks and shrimps served with bell peppers. It came along with tortillas, dips- salsa, jalapeno, sour cream, and pico de gallo. It was really good in terms of taste and kudos to the chef sitting with us who rolled the tortillas for us the exact way it should be eaten and then presented it to us to eat. Never had such warming experience at any place.

#12 Fresh Mex Rice Bowl

IMG_20160411_223334_HDR.jpg

It was marinated grilled chicken over chipotle rice mixed with chopped veggies and tortilla chips and dressed with sour cream and chipotle sauce. The dish tasted way too well. It is a must try if you are in a mood to try something different yet pleasing.

#13 Molten Chocolate Cake

IMG_20160411_230406_HDR.jpg

Best way to cease the day is to have a nice and warm dessert at the end of your meal. This was it. Shaped like a volcano with drizzling chocolate sauce and vanilla ice cream and chocolate dome on top that needs to be broken first to enjoy your dessert to the fullest. Mouth wateringly delicious it was.

#14 Chocolate Truffle Cheesecake

IMG_20160411_230435_HDR.jpg

Layers of cake and truffle sauce infused with rum. Very gooey in texture and leaves you wanting more with each spoon. Ah! Need I say more?

I had a great time here and I am certainly going to visit them again. I would recommend this place if you want to chill out with friends and simultaneously want an amazing gastronomical experience. This place is easy on the pocket and great in terms of portions that they serve.  Chili’s is truly value for money!

Review “Yauatcha”-The Ambience Mall, Vasant Kunj

“Afterall, Life is delicious when you pull up the chair and take a taste” !

Once you step inside the Ambience mall, Vasant Kunj, you know it well enough that it’s going to burn your pocket,be it shopping or eating at a good restaurant. “Yauatcha” is one among the many, located in a corner of the second level of the mall. This restaurant does not require a second thought for their take on-“Cantonese cuisine”.

So, let me give you a detailed insight to what this luxury dining has got for the rich class of people and for foodies who wouldn’t mind burning their pocket.

Out of so many restaurants, I picked “Yauatcha” for the review for a stomach full and content dinner. We were however, swiftly escorted to our table by the nice courteous service staff member who even guided us through the menu.

Ambience:

It’s dimly neon glow and dark facades are perfectly offset by the glass partitioning to one side that contributes to the restaurant’s airy vibe even by evening and has a long bar at the other end.It has a capacity to accommodate approximately 137 people and has the crowd of a good class of people.

Staff and Higher Management:

We barely had an interaction with them. Even the staff did not make an effort to attend us timely so after having placed an order and having done with it, we literally had to look here and there for the staff to make sure that he sees us and comes and takes the next order. The service was indeed very slow and even got frustrating at times which kept us at bay from ordering the main course and just being done up with their starters and drinks.

This place will never disappoint you when it comes to their dim sums-ranging from steamed,pan-fried and fried being available in vegetarian and meat select and for a wide range of their drinks.

Drinks:

We had ordered a glass of orange and chilli smoothie which was a good blend of orange juice, palm sugar, chilli, mint and lemon grass ( although, the lemongrass was not a necessity). We also ordered a glass of plum cut larissa smoothie which had grapes, plums, fruit syrup, oolong tea and apple juice in the right mix. The virgin mary mocktail was indeed very nice. I have seen a very few restaurants come up with this drink as a perfection, apt for my taste buds. Overall, we were content with our drinks.

Dim-sums:

We tried their Chicken and Prawn sui mai, vegetable shanghai Dumplings at first, which clearly reflected the artistry and silken touch that goes into making each of these babies. Each one of them looked stunning, made with the sure touch of a master craftsman.

IMG-20160412-WA0026

IMG-20160412-WA0029

Having finished both these starters and craving to try for more of their range in “Cantonese Cuisine”, we also ordered a chicken cheung fun, crispy spicy vegetable cheung fun and chicken wrapped in pakchoi. The Chicken wrapped in pakchoi was just too good. My favourite among all. It was very well presented to us and it was a dish that I had tried for the first time and truly relished it. I could have definitely gone for more had my stomach permitted me to do so..( hahahahha…)

Desserts:

This being the best part of our meal (and I am sure your’s too….)

At the end we were presented with a curated dessert platter which included three flavors of ice cream, religieuse, six french macaroons, milk choco praline and mango mascarpone gateaux.
Macaroons…Ahhh..those gorgeous, little French cookies-delicate and pretty. They were fluffy and delicious. And they were so super cute! They were perfect with not a single crack in any batch. They were fresh and delicate but too sweet for my taste buds.

IMG-20160412-WA0022

The milk chocolate praline, was my favourite (sure, it’s gonna be your’s as well…! ). The Sacher biscuit on top was a commendable way of presenting it. Very delicate and soft and dissolves in your mouth right then. Tempting and mouth watering…You need to get your eyes off it inorder to resist it.

IMG-20160412-WA0024

The religieuse, had a good presentation with a disc shaped on top having “Yauatcha” written on it but, was a little hard. Didn’t find it fresh and I would not like to go for another try of it.

IMG-20160412-WA0025

Mango mascarpone gateaux- Soft and delicate and a bit crunchy…

IMG-20160412-WA0021

If you are having the crave for “Cantonese food” and like to try out their deep fried dim-sums, then you can give it a thought of burning your pocket.

The service needs to improve and also the higher management needs to make sure that each and everyone there is attended properly.

It might leave some of you with a content heart and happy taste buds but as for me, I was a little disappointed with some of their dishes and might think of considering it the next time.

Highly Recommend: Chicken wrapped in pakchoi, Chicken and Prawn sui mai and milk choco praline.

Colors of South, Chettinad Food Festival @ Crowne Plaza, Gurgaon

Crowne Plaza held the amazingly aromatic Chettinad Food Festival. Starters consisted of Kozhi Varuval (masala coated fried chicken morsals), Kari Kola urandai (minced lamb dumplings spiked with chettinad spices), Keerai vadai (spinach and lentil patties), Vazhakai kola urandai (Golden kebabs of raw banana with coconut and chillies). Our favourite was the minced lamb. The flavours were delightful. The chutney it was served with was brilliant too.

The Main course consisted of “Meen kozhambu” (Spicy tangy fish curry simmered with shallots, cumin and curry leaves), “Kozhi uppkari Chettiyar” (spices rubbed chicken simmered with shallots and poppy seeds masala) but our favourite was the “Kari chops masala” (A traditional Lamb chop preperation).

DSC_0812

We had a few vegetarians at the table who particularly enjoyed the main course “Kai Kari mandi” (A combination of vegetables , green chillies cooked in gravy of tamarind and garlic) and the Vellai poriyal Cauliflower and double beans tempered with garlic).

DSC_0810

DSC_0850The desserts of “Kalkandu Pongal”(A sweet preration of sugar candy and rice) and “Chettiiyar carrot halwa” (Grated carrots and reduced milk finished with ghee and nuts). The buffet wasn’t restricted to only Chettinad food though. There was Sushi, Chinese and Chaat that we all loved.

The food festival lasted until the 20th of March and was hugely successful, the menu was changed almost everyday and the chefs ensured that the spices were just right to suit the taste of North Indians and Expats.

Chef Saby’s Amreli @ Hotel Diplomat, Delhi

In the leafy environs of Lutyens Delhi lies a culinary gem called Amreli in Hotel Diplomat. The Hotel itself is so understated that it is easy to miss but once inside it is a as cosy a place as there can be in Delhi. The menu has been created by Chef Saby (Sabyasachi Gorai) and is quite eclectic. Continental and American food sits side by side with a great Indian menu so that you keep coming back to Amreli even if you have a craving for different cuisines.

We began our mean with a caesar salad along with mutton seekh kebabs and sizzling gambas. The sizzling sambas or prawns were sizzling alright – in the juices of wonderful cherry tomatoes, garlic, olives, mushrooms and rosemary (among other herbs). Needless to say they were smashing. The prawns were cooked perfectly and were coated enough in those heavenly juices to provide a taste contrast.

The Diplomat Caesar salad was amped up with peppers and zucchini and the seekh kebab was great as well.

For mains we ordered crispy filo raan, chettinad chicken with malabar paratha and a Louisiana chicken sandwich.

The chettinad chicken was highly recommended and it was my favourite dish of the day. The chettinad here has become my favourite chettinad chicken in the city. This version is more refined than the punchy Chettinad chicken you get at other restaurants but the balance of flavours and the liberal use of coconut won me over. The wonderful tang in the sauce lingers on you r taste buds for very long and its a very pleasant taste indeed.

The filo raan is a meat eaters delight, although I found the filo quite oily. Maybe a thicker wrap could have absorbed more oil and made it taste better, but that is a personal choice.

The Louisiana chicken sandwich was quite tasty and the spicy chips made the sandwich quite special.

The desserts were classic desserts – baked cheesecake, chocolate fondant and creme brûlée. The creme burlee was the best dessert by a distance. It had perfectly hard caramel on top that crackled and the custard was as it should be – creamy, smooth and luscious.

The fondant was made well but it was slightly let down because of the chocolate used, as it left a slight aftertaste.

The baked cheesecake was quite decent too.
In summation , I loved my time at Amreli. I came with my friends for a quick meal but it turned into a leisurely lunch as we sat and chatted away as time went by. A charming restaurant with great food often does that to you.
